Soy Yo

I once spoke with an elderly man in Mexico who asked everyone in the room, "Quien eres tu?" Who are you? One by one the others said their name and one by one he told them that they were wrong. That was what they were called, he said, but it is not who they are. He looked at me and asked, "Quien eres tu?" I responded, "Soy yo." I am me. Exactly, he said.

I already knew that was the answer he was looking for, I had been studying spanish for much longer than the others, but even years later, I cannot get that moment out of my head. My name is not who I am, or at least so thinks he. So who am I, if not Porter Payne?

I love to learn. I am studing mechanical engineering at a university, but nearly everything I know about any hobby anything I'm really interested in comes from youtube and the subsequent google search rabbit holes. I am interested in art, music, history, engineering. I used to be a competative drummer and a classical percussionist and I studied piano for 12 years. When I listen to music, the lyrics are often the least of my worries. I listen to rock, bossa nova, and jazz, and I am obsessed with learning about the history of genres, artists, and songs. I like to call myself a painter. I love to look very very closely at oil paintings in galleries. Rather recently, I have discovered a great interest in computers, programming, and tech in general. That is mainly what has lead me to create this site. I'd like to have a place to document projects that I'm working on and to share them.

I hope this documentation eventually shows my growth as a designer, engineer, and artist. Maybe it will help me get a job someday!

Im in my early 20's working and going to school. I'm fluent in spanish. I have experience in high end finish carpentry and maintenance work for large corporate office buildings.
